Greetings, writers!

Sign with "Week 2 Check-In" in pink on a blackboard, bordered by wood and striped red and white, on a teal background.

We’ve just wrapped up Week 2 of the Gentle 30-Day Micro-Writing Challenge, and if you're like me, I'm hoping the daily practice is helping you stay in touch with your creativity during this busy month!

This week’s theme, Playing with Perspective, encouraged us to shift lenses: writing from unusual narrators, letting objects take on new life, and experimenting with voice.

By seeing from outside ourselves, we learn to see the familiar in unexpected ways.

Reflection on Week 2

One thing I loved about this week was how the prompts encouraged us to step outside our usual lens.

Writing from the perspective of an inanimate object or imagining a character who hates telling the truth reminded me how freeing it can be to let go of my own voice and let another one take over.

For me, the prompt about writing a conversation between two people who aren’t speaking aloud really helped me strike gold.

I found myself jotting down gestures, glances, even the silences in between. It showed me how much tension and emotion can live in the unsaid... a lesson I’m carrying into my other writing this month.

Bonus prompt: Perspective twist

One of the prompts from this week (#10) asked you to write a scene where an inanimate object plays a key role.

For a bonus challenge, try flipping the perspective:

  • Write the scene from the object’s point of view.

  • How does it see the humans around it?

  • What secrets or truths might it know that the people don’t?

Engaging in a shift like this pushes us to fully inhabit an unexpected narrator and can lead to surprising discoveries about both character and setting.

Looking ahead in the 30-day writing challenge

Next week, we’ll turn inward with Mining Memory and Emotion.

These prompts will encourage us to revisit personal history and connect memory with sensory detail.

It’s a chance to slow down, reflect, and write from the heart in the week leading up to Thanksgiving.

If you missed a few days, don't worry! The goal is more about showing up in small ways, so dive back in to this 30-day writing challenge when it works for you.

Happy writing!
